Welcome! This blog is a combined effort of various connected families as a way to preserve our old recipes, some of them long held secrets which may have never been shared before. These favorite recipes were passed down from generation to generation, but not everyone has access to the cookbooks and the recipes. This blog makes it possible for everyone to enjoy these recipes without the threat of them being lost or forgotten.
The recipes posted are culled from various family cookbooks, especially those handwritten in the pages or inside the covers. In most cases, a scan of the original recipe will be included. I would also like to display photographs of the finished dish if possible.
The original recipe will be posted, along with any tweaks that were added, subtracted or substituted ingredients by the subsequent generations. The instructions are explained in easy to use terms. Feel free to experiment with the recipes according to your own taste.
Some new recipes will also be shared in order to start new traditions and expand our culinary experiences. All recipes come from many different ethnicities and cultures, including Italian, Hungarian, Swedish and so many more including those ethnic dishes that have been Americanized or are purely American dishes themselves.
As an amateur genealogist who works hard to link all the branches in our ever growing family tree (I am on ancestry.com), I feel that adding our family recipes will help the members in our tree to become more interactive and connected. Its also a way to keep the memory of our passed loved ones with us and let the younger generations know a little more about their ancestors.
This blog will be an ongoing work in progress and I will need your assistance in fleshing it out. If you have a family recipe, the scanned copy or a photo of a finished dish to share, please message me.
To submit a family recipe please do the following:
- Scan the recipe and share the photo with me.
- Let me know where the recipe is from, who's recipe is it and where was it found?
- Possible date of recipe?
- Include what ethnicity you believe it to be (Swedish, Italian, etc)
- Also include any tweaks you have that you add or subtract from the recipe.
- If you make the dish, share a photo if possible.
